More Candidates, More Selective Hiring

Greater candidate availability has given employers more choice, but finding the right fit remains challenging.

Demand continued across banking, financial services, government, utilities, health and consulting throughout Q1. However, employers are taking time to assess the combination of BA fundamentals, specialist experience and technical understanding they need.

For candidates, making that connection clear in applications and interviews is increasingly important.

Core BA Skills Still Come First

Requirements, workshops and stakeholder management remain central to hiring decisions.

Employers want BAs who can uncover problems, challenge assumptions, map processes and support delivery through testing and implementation.

Specialist knowledge across Data, ServiceNow, CRM, APIs and integrations can strengthen a candidate’s position. However, it needs to sit alongside strong analysis capability and the ability to communicate across business and technology teams.

Interviews Need Evidence of Your Contribution

Hiring managers want to understand how you work, not simply what your project delivered.

Karim highlighted a recurring challenge: candidates describing what “we” achieved without explaining what they personally owned, produced or influenced.
Structured examples should explain the problem, your approach and the outcome. Methodology also matters. Listing Agile, Waterfall or Hybrid experience on a CV needs to be backed by practical examples of how you applied it

Technical and Data Literacy Are Becoming More Important

BAs are increasingly expected to bridge business needs and technical delivery.

Understanding systems, integrations and data flows helps professionals work effectively with technical teams and explain complex concepts to stakeholders.

This does not mean every BA needs to become a developer. It means being able to hold informed conversations, ask useful questions and understand how technology decisions affect the business.

AI Is Changing How BAs Work

AI is beginning to support BA delivery, while core analysis skills remain essential.

Karim discussed how AI can assist with documentation, reviewing information and administrative tasks, creating more time for stakeholder engagement and problem-solving.

For candidates, practical examples of using AI thoughtfully can be useful. Judgement, validation and an understanding of its limitations remain important.

Key Takeaway

The BA market is steady, competitive and increasingly focused on demonstrated capability.

For candidates, the priority is to explain your analysis process, individual contribution and relevant specialist experience clearly. For employers, a large candidate pool does not always mean a large supply of people who meet every requirement.
