Business Analyst – Data Transformation – 6 months initially + extensions
Location: Sydney (3 days per week in office)
Start date: ASAP – very urgent
Rate: $800-900 inc super per day
Working rights: must be based in Sydney, Australia and have full working rights
About
Our client is embarking on a major data transformation initiative to modernise legacy data platforms and establish a scalable, future-ready data environment.
They are looking for an experienced Business Analyst who thrives in complex environments and enjoys bringing clarity to ambiguity. This role will see you working closely with both business and technology stakeholders to understand existing data processes, capture critical knowledge, and translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements for delivery teams.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a large transformation programme while helping shape the way business analysis is delivered across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with business and technical stakeholders to elicit and document requirements.
- Facilitate workshops and guide discussions to uncover business needs and pain points.
- Capture and document knowledge from subject matter experts, including legacy systems and processes.
- Map current-state processes and data flows, identifying risks, dependencies and opportunities for improvement.
- Produce high-quality business analysis artefacts including business requirements, functional requirements and process maps.
- Work alongside project managers and technical teams to support multiple concurrent data initiatives.
- Bridge the gap between business and technology by translating business requirements into clear deliverables for technical teams.
- Contribute to the migration and modernisation of enterprise data platforms.
- Support continuous improvement of business analysis practices and stakeholder engagement across the programme.
Key Requirements
- 5+ years’ demonstrated experience as a Business Analyst on enterprise-scale data transformation programmes.
- Strong background delivering data-related initiatives, such as data migration, reporting, analytics or data platform projects.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships across both technical and non-technical teams.
- Proven experience facilitating workshops and eliciting requirements in complex or evolving environments.
- Strong current-state and future-state process mapping experience.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a way that business stakeholders can understand.
- Experience working across multiple projects or large transformation programmes.
- Exposure to modern cloud or enterprise data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake or similar would be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of data governance and data quality principles is advantageous but not essential.
