Role Overview
The ERP Technical Lead is responsible for owning and leading all technical aspects of the SAP landscape, spanning Development, Integration, Security & Controls, and BASIS.
This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role – not just governance. You will lead internal teams and system integrators, set technical direction and standards, assure delivery quality, and step in to unblock or validate complex technical decisions. The role plays a critical part in ensuring SAP is delivered safely, consistently and in line with enterprise architecture and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery

Own the end-to-end SAP technical stream, including roadmap, delivery approach and execution.

Provide technical leadership across SAP Development, Integration, Security & Controls and BASIS.

Govern and assure work delivered by System Integrators, ensuring alignment to standards, architecture and timelines.

Actively participate in agile delivery, including sprint planning, estimation and backlog refinement.

Coordinate cross-functional technical dependencies, risks and mitigation plans.

Provide hands-on technical input to validate designs and unblock delivery teams.
SAP Development
-
Lead design and development across ABAP, Fiori/UI5, CDS views, SAP BTP and extensibility frameworks.

Ensure development follows agreed standards, performance guidelines and naming conventions.

Review and approve technical designs, specifications and custom code.
-
Conduct QA and code reviews, promoting reuse and simplified architectures.
SAP Integration

Oversee design, build and testing of SAP and non-SAP integrations, including API-led and BTP-based patterns.

Ensure integration security, data standards and architectural principles are adhered to.

Review interface mappings, error handling, monitoring and documentation.

Sign off integration designs and delivery outcomes.
SAP Security & Controls

Oversee SAP security design including roles, authorisations and segregation-of-duties.

Ensure compliance with audit, risk and corporate security frameworks.
-
Review risk analysis, role design artefacts and transport approvals.

Partner with internal controls teams to maintain audit readiness.
SAP BASIS & Technical Operations
-
Provide oversight of system architecture, environments, transports, monitoring and performance tuning.

Govern BASIS activities including upgrades, patching, system copies and landscape management.

Validate HA/DR strategies and performance optimisation initiatives.

Ensure stable operations across development, test and production environments.
Quality, Standards & Continuous Improvement

Establish and enforce technical standards, patterns and documentation practices.

Perform QA reviews across all technical deliverables from internal teams and vendors.

Ensure complete and accurate technical documentation.

Drive continuous improvement and adoption of SAP best practices.

Promote the use of AI-enabled tools to improve delivery planning and performance.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management

Act as the primary point of contact for SAP technical matters.

Collaborate with functional leads, enterprise architects and external vendors.
-
Present designs, risks and issues to architecture and governance forums.

Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders on progress, risks and decisions.
Required Experience
-
15+ years’ experience in SAP technical roles, including 3-5 years in a leadership or architecture capacity.

Strong hands-on background in SAP Development and Integration technologies.

Proven experience overseeing BASIS operations, upgrades, performance and transport governance.

Demonstrated experience in SAP Security & Controls.
-
Strong track record managing System Integrators and multi-vendor delivery.

Experience leading technical teams in agile delivery environments.

Extensive experience delivering medium to large SAP transformation programs.

SAP technical certifications (ABAP, BTP, Integration, BASIS, Security) highly desirable.
