Part-time role – 3 days per week

Location: Hobart
Duration:
9 months initially
Working rights:
must be an Australian permanent resident or Australian Citizen

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to play a key part in a major systems analysis and digital transformation initiative.

Over time, the technology environment supporting this critical service area has become increasingly constrained by legacy systems that no longer meet modern operational demands. This project aims to assess the current IT landscape, identify areas for remediation, and define a clear, future-focused pathway toward a modern, scalable, and secure digital ecosystem.

As Project Manager, you’ll oversee all phases of the project lifecycle – from planning and stakeholder engagement through to assessment, design, and executive delivery – ensuring activities are aligned with governance standards and strategic objectives. You’ll play a central role in coordinating project teams, managing risks, and developing key artefacts to inform future technology investments.

Role Requirements

The project will be delivered in four key stages:

  1. Initiation and Planning – Team formation, stakeholder identification, governance setup, and project planning.
  2. Current State Assessment – Conducting system health assessments, process mapping, and analysis of existing technology environments.
  3. Future State Design – Facilitating workshops, identifying improvement opportunities, conducting feasibility analysis, and developing future state artefacts and business cases.
  4. Executive Engagement – Preparing and presenting formal executive papers to secure endorsement and funding for the proposed transformation program.

As Project Manager, you will:

  • Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery across all stages.
  • Monitor and act on identified risks, issues, and interdependencies.
  • Provide regular progress reports and updates to key stakeholders.
  • Support the development of business cases, project portfolios, and executive papers.
  • Ensure adherence to governance, policy, and reporting standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and quality assurance processes.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Project Officers, and technical leads to ensure successful outcomes.

Required Experience

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience managing complex IT or digital transformation projects.
  • Strong understanding of project governance frameworks, stakeholder management, and risk control.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience developing business cases, project portfolios, and executive-level documentation.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and a structured, delivery-focused approach.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, project planning, and documentation tools.
  • A relevant qualification or certification in project management (e.g. PRINCE2, PMBOK, Agile) will be highly regarded.

Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to lead a strategically significant project that will shape the future of a critical service environment. You’ll be joining a collaborative and motivated team working to deliver meaningful, lasting change through well-governed digital transformation.

You’ll gain valuable exposure across strategic planning, systems assessment, and executive-level engagement – helping to design and deliver a technology landscape that supports resilience, efficiency, and future readiness.

If you’re a structured, outcomes-driven Project Manager looking to make a tangible impact through digital transformation, this project offers an outstanding opportunity to do so.
