This is a founding Data hire, a Lead Data/Analytics Engineer within a fast-growing, venture-backed SaaS company solving complex problems to make the world a better place! You will take full ownership from a hands on perspective in building the data function and platform from the ground up in a true greenfield environment.
The business already generates large volumes of data across multiple systems, but it is currently unstructured creating a high-impact opportunity to design a scalable, well-modelled data foundation. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with significant influence, working closely with leadership to shape how data is used across the organisation.
This position won’t suit someone who has worked in large corporates for the entirety of their career – you should have experience in start up/scale up (unstructured) environments, you will be expected to lay the foundations for growth while working closely with the Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the end-to-end data platform from scratch
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes
- Create clean, well-structured data models and curated data layers
- Translate complex business workflows into usable data structures
- Partner with stakeholders to define data requirements and use cases
- Establish best practices across data architecture, modelling, and governance
- Enable analytics across product, growth, and operational functions
- Consolidate and unify data from multiple sources into a single platform
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering roles
- Strong expertise in data modelling and dbt
- Hands-on experience setting up greenfield Databricks (or similar) modern data platforms
- Experience building data systems in greenfield or early-stage environments
- Strong SQL and data warehousing fundamentals
- Ability to work with ambiguity and translate business needs into technical solutions
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and commercial awareness
- Experience with cloud platforms AWS/GCP, BigQuery etc..
