Business Analyst – Payments

Senior Business Analyst – Payments – FTC

Location: Melbourne (remote)
Contract length: 12 months (definite extensions)
Salary: $130-160k + super

Role Overview

As a Business Analyst, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. You will focus heavily on payments-related initiatives – including card systems, compliance, fraud, and system integrations, while also supporting broader digital transformation projects across core banking, CRM and digital channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support payments-related initiatives with a focus on compliance, card security, Visa/Mastercard schemes, and fraud prevention.
  • Analyse and document business requirements for integrations across systems such as core banking, CRM, SMS gateways, data warehouses, and digital banking platforms.
  • Work closely with developers and architects to deliver API integrations and support microservices architecture (e.g., MuleSoft, middleware).
  • Ensure solutions align with the Banking Code of Practice, regulatory standards, and internal risk policies.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business requirements and user stories.
  • Support end-to-end project delivery including business case development, stakeholder engagement, UAT planning, and change management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Risk, Operations and Technology.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst in the banking or financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in payments systems (NPP, BPAY, international payments), with a preference for deep knowledge in card payments, card security, and fraud detection.
  • Strong understanding of Visa/Mastercard ecosystems and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven experience working on API integrations, microservices, and middleware platforms (e.g., MuleSoft).
  • Familiarity with core banking systems, digital banking platforms, CRM tools, and data warehouses.
  • Strong knowledge of payments compliance and regulatory requirements in the Australian banking environment.
  • Experience with Banking Code of Practice and customer fairness principles.
  • Ability to work in agile environments and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving setting.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
